What is iScribe?
iScribe is a collection of electronic prescribing and support tools. You can use the:
- electronic prescribing product set (PDA and web tools), which comes with formulary reference tools-only available to sponsored users
- the formulary reference only product set (PDA and web tools)
- web only-Universal Formulary Reference, Web Renewals and Patient History
How do I access formulary alternatives?
The formulary status code is presented to the left of the drug name. To access preferred alternatives by therapeutic category, tap on the code to the left of the drug name. With electronic prescribing, to prescribe the drug without reviewing alternatives, tap on the drug name to go directly to the review SIG screen.

What is the one-time security PIN code?
iScribe will mail you a PIN code that will be used one time only to activate the advanced iScribe functionality. After entering your PIN code on the iScribe website, you will have access to patient-specific information available within the advanced iScribe features.
What is a PBM?
Caremark is a PBM. PBM is short for Pharmacy Benefit Manager, a phrase used to refer to companies that offer a wide range of pharmacy benefit and health improvement services and products to its health plan sponsors, members, and health care providers.
How much does the iScribe system cost?
Call the iScribe team toll-free at 1-877-483-1324. If you're a sponsored user, one of our iScribe specialists will enroll you in your sponsorship program.
How can I determine if I'm sponsored? Sponsored physicians likely received an invitation to participate in the iScribe program. To confirm your sponsorship status, call the iScribe team toll-free at 1-877-483-1324.
What if I'm not sponsored? All of the iScribe electronic prescribing products, including PDA electronic prescribing are available to you for purchase or you can use our free available tools, including Web-based electronic prescribing.
What are the numbers to the right of patients’ names on my PDA?
Those are the patients’ ages.
After I tap the patient’s name on my PDA, I see a list of drugs. Are those all the drugs that the patient is taking?
No. That’s the list of drugs you can select from to prescribe to the selected patient.
What is the Web Renewals feature?
Select pharmacies (depending on the region) have the ability to send their renewal requests to your iScribe account. The renewal information presented is comprehensive. You have the options to approve, deny or change the prescription, then simply click the Send button to respond to the pharmacy’s request.
How do I print prescriptions from my PDA?
Printing prescriptions from your PDA, once things are setup, simply requires tapping the print button while in the required range of your printer. The required range will depend on whether your PDA and printer “talk” to each other via infrared (IR), Bluetooth or Wireless (Wi-Fi) technologies.
IR printing is similar to aiming a remote control at the TV. If your printer has an IR port or adapter, place your PDA within 2 feet of the printer, aim it at the printer's IR port and tap the print button on the PDA screen.
Bluetooth printing expands your print range to 30 feet. If both your PDA and printer are able to send/receive Bluetooth signals, simply tap the print button on the PDA screen while within the 30-foot range of the printer. You don't have to aim your PDA at the printer.
Wireless printing requires a wireless print server be connected to your dedicated printer. Once an IP address is established you must enter this information into the iScribe application Print/Preferences tab. Please contact iScribe customer service if you need assistance with this advanced feature.
How can I send prescriptions directly to a pharmacy?
After generating a prescription (either on your PDA or from within your Web account), you will be presented with options to print or send. When sending, you will need to select the pharmacy from your pharmacy list. Please note: you must enter your PIN to activate the ability to send prescriptions to the pharmacy from your PDA or the Web.
Sending from your PDA: Prescriptions you create on your PDA to be sent to the pharmacy will be sent when you next sync your PDA while connected to the Internet. The prescriptions will be routed over secure connections directly to the pharmacy. If you have wireless (Wi-Fi) network capabilities, you can send the prescriptions immediately to the pharmacy.
Sending from your iScribe web account: Prescriptions can be sent directly to the pharmacy via iScribe’s secure connections; after creating a new prescription, choose the Send option presented in the 3rd step and click Done. With the pharmacy renewal requests, you need to approve or deny the request then click the Send button.
How do I transfer patients demographics data from my PMS or EMR to iScribe? Does iScribe offer a direct interface? Yes, for some patients, a practice management system interface also exists. Click here for more information.
